Policy 1 -- Principle of Sustainable Development

Purpose: To clearly state the approach taken in the Neighbourhood Plan to ‘development’ and the balance that needs to be struck when considering proposals.

 

Policy: The Neighbourhood Plan will support a positive approach to sustainable development and development proposals where they show a balance amongst economic, social and environmental factors and where they accord with other policies in this plan.  In particular development proposals should:

  • Promote the social and economic well-being of the Parish’s resident community keeping in mind the benefits brought through the eco-tourism visitor economy. 
  • Secure positive impacts on the local habitats and species (including the designated sites) and National Landscape. including having regard to the cumulative impacts including effects such as: vibration, dust, light, noise, odour, litter, damage to kerbs and verges
  • Pay significant regard to heritage assets and cultural heritage of the village
  • Enable positive adaptation to climate change, flood risk throughout the life of the development.
