Policy 17 -- Small Shop Units

 

Purpose:  To preserve retail space that serves the community and is appropriate to the built environment of the village and/or that has regard to the role that some shops play in supporting the visitor economy.

 

Policy:  Small shop units should be:

  • protected from change of use to residential or holiday letting. 
  • proposals to increase the size of an existing retail unit must:
    • demonstrate that it is essential to ensure the continued effective trading of the existing operator. 
    • appropriate to the size and massing of existing units and in a style appropriate to the location.
  • subject to the other policies within the Plan
