Policy 24-- Minimising the Impact of Flooding
Purpose: To address street flooding caused by homes/businesses and minimise risks of flooding from erosion, climate change and other sources.
Policy: As appropriate to their scale, nature and location, development proposals should:
- Include assessment of the potential impact on flooding
- Mitigate flooding from all sources (fluvial and pluvial)
- Provide appropriate Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) which minimise discharge rates unless it can be shown to be inappropriate. SuDS should be well integrated into a development and provide multifunctional benefits, such as landscaping, open space and biodiversity gains; and
- Provide for rainwater harvesting.
Development proposals in flood attenuation areas, including the hard surfacing of gardens, driveways or other open spaces, which would reduce the ability of the area concerned to alleviate flooding, will be discouraged. Where planning permission is required, they will not be supported.
