Policy 5 -- Protected Sites

 

Purpose:  To reinforce the immense value that the ‘protected’ natural assets have to the biodiversity of the country and internationally, and to the life of the village and the wider population enjoying it.

 

Policy: (Note: TBD - this is in part from the ESC Local Plan SCLP 10.1 para 2 TBD)

 

Proposals for development that will have a direct or indirect adverse impact (alone or in-combination with other plans or projects) on locally or internationally designated sites of biodiversity importance in and around Walberswick will not be supported.

 

If it can be demonstrated with comprehensive evidence (including Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) as appropriate) that the benefits of the proposal, in its particular location, outweighs the biodiversity loss or damage and that suitable and acceptable mitigation can be put in place or suitable and acceptable compensatory habitat can be found in the locality, then it may be supported with that caveat.

 

The designations referred to above will be taken to include the Special Protection Area (SPA), Special Area for Conservation (SAC) or Ramsar site, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), County Wildlife Sites (CWS), priority habitats and species within or outside of the Plan area.
