The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration in Walberswick on Sunday, June 5
A working party comprising members of Walberswick Parish Council, the Walberswick Common Lands Charity, the Parochial Church Council and the Village Hall has been established to co-ordinate a series of events throughout the Sunday. The celebrations will start at 10am with a morning service at St. Andrews Church, followed by a Toast to Her Majesty, held in the Ruins. Then on to a BYO Lunchtime Picnic on The Green. In the afternoon, the plans are for lots of fun for the children with Games, Races, Maypole Dancing, plus the famous Walberswick Tug-of-War and other Competitions open to anyone in the Village. Live Music will feature and a Commemorative Exhibition will be held in the Heritage Hut.
To ensure a happy, successful and memorable event, we are asking for a team of volunteers to help at various times throughout the day to share the load of set up/run/take down/clear up. If you feel able to give the village some of your time, let us know as soon as you can by email to walberswickjubilee@gmail.com
In addition, the History Group will be setting up a small exhibition in the Heritage Hut on the day, showing jubilee memorabilia from the Archives – Silver (1977), Golden (2002) and Diamond (2012). They would welcome any photographs or other items which could be added to the display. These will of course be returned to the doner after the celebrations.
