Walberswick Car Parks Ltd

Walberswick Car Parks Limited was established in 1997 to help manage the large traffic flow and address the lack of appropriate parking in the village particularly during the busy summer months. Over the years, the number of cars entering the village has increased as Walberswick attracts large numbers of visitors throughout the year.

Parking charges are in place and enforced year-round and payment is via RingGo only. The vast majority of customers prefer online payments to using machines.  It makes queuing unnecessary, allows people to top up time without returning to their cars and though certainly not perfect, functions more dependably than the machines. It is also easier to ensure compliance.  We are aware, however, that there are some visitors who wish they could still use coins.  We understand their disappointment but as we announced last November, we had no choice but to end cash.   This happened when WCPL found itself one of the hundreds of small businesses and  charities across the country who were “debanked” without notice.  Most banks will not open new accounts for small businesses that deal in large amounts of cash and there is nowhere to physically bank coins as local bank branches have all shut. Simply put, operating coin machines is just not possible for us. Visitors who don’t have mobile phones can buy their parking before they leave home using their computer or their regular phone. We appreciate the patronage of all our customers and thank them for their understanding and support.

Various tariffs are available including a short stay option.   These are displayed on boards in the car park and on the RingGo app. Attendants work during the busiest hours of the summer season to help manage the traffic and help drivers to park their vehicles in a way to maximise the available space.  There are no public toilets in the car parks, but can be found next to the Village Hall located at the entrance to the Cliff Field track.

Walberswick Car Parks Limited is registered at Company’s House and run by a volunteer Board of Directors from the village and a part-time Operations Manager. All profit from parking charges is covenanted to the Walberswick Common Lands Charity which helps maintain the Commons and other paths and bridle ways, helps provide flood defence and provides charitable support to many causes and individuals in the local community.  Please go to the Charity's own site to see some of the work it does.

To contact the Operations Manager of the Car Parks for season tickets or with any concerns please use the Contact Us form.
