Celebrate Heritage Open Days in the Village
Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2024, 9.30-4pm
The Flood Route is the theme for a pop-up family walking trail activity with clues around the Village and beach devised by the Heritage Hut team as part of the Heritage Open Days 2024 celebrations.
Cleverly devised to take children and families on an exploration of water and flood features through the village and along the beach, the colourful route leaflet features flood and defence features containing a letter to collect. Once you’ve collected them all unscramble the anagram to reveal a phrase. The map even includes your own favourite village watering holes at The Anchor, the Bell. Black Dog, Parish Lantern and Tea Shed for when all that walking and clue hunting calls for refreshment.
The event will also mark the final weekend of the “When the Sea Comes In” exhibition about the flooding along the East Coast, beginning with the Great Flood of 1953, which has already welcomed over 750 visitors in the past few months. If you haven’t seen it, this is your last chance.
Collect the leaflet and a pen from the Heritage Hut and off you go. While you’re there take a look at the exhibition which may even contain a few clues to help you on your way. Both are free to enter and have been generously supported by The Walberswick Common Land Charity.
Heritage Open Days is England's largest community led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history, and it’s all FREE. This year’s theme is Routes, Networks and Connections.
