Public meeting at the Village Hall on 16th January 2025 – Proposed Article 4 direction in Walberswick
East Suffolk Council are considering the introduction of an Article 4 direction in part of the Walberswick Conservation Area and would like to invite residents to a public meeting to introduce the proposals and seek feedback. The public meeting will be held at 7pm on 16th January 2025 in Walberswick Village Hall (doors will open at 18.30)
An Article 4 direction means that planning permission is required for certain physical changes to single residential properties that would usually be permitted (i.e. Permitted Development). These restrictions only apply to ‘relevant locations’, meaning the elevations that face a highway, open space or waterway. Article 4 directions are often used in Conservation Areas to help preserve the character and appearance of the area, by ensuring that proposals can be assessed, to minimise the loss of appropriate features or historic character.
For the purposes of this initial consultation, the area to be covered by the Article 4 direction has been drafted and can be seen by following this link: http://walberswick.onesuffolk.net/assets/Parish-Council/Reports-and-Notices/Notices-2024/Article-4-Walberswick.jpg
This is not final and both the Parish Council and East Suffolk District Council would appreciate feedback on the extent of the Article 4 direction.
A guidance leaflet which provides more information on Article 4 directions is available here: https://www.eastsuffolk.gov.uk/assets/Planning/Design-and-Conservation/Article-4-Directions/Guidance-Note-Article-4.pdf
